From: Richard Copra; Sun, 6 Jun 1999; Dickcopra@aol.com; 1968 Karmann Coupe; Thanks for putting on a great web site - Dick Copra From: Chris Caris; Sun, 16 May 1999; jmaher@sierra.psnw.com; I am looking at a '67 targa and was interested in finding out what its worth before making an offer. It is a 5sp, motor rebuilt 12k ago, leather (original) seats, body is real nice. However, as usual the floor pan has rust, as does the front suspention pan. The car seems to be in good shape otherwise but I don't want to take on too much with my first Porsche. Any advice is appreciated on where to start, what to look at/for, whom to contact, and what I should pay. Thanks in advance, Chris Caris From: Rumbelow Matthew; Thu, 22 Apr 1999; MRumbelow@tjguk.com; Advice needed! From: Andy Daniels; Mon, 19 Apr 1999; andy_daniels@uk.ibm.com; Hi I have been looking to buy a 912 for some time and think I may have found one from an ad in the 912 Registry. Unfortunately I am located in the UK and the car is in Des Moines, Iowa! Can you suggest a contact(s) in the Des Moines area who could provide me with an inspection report and, perhaps someone else, who could help me with shipping? I would be grateful for any help and will of course subsequently register with you. First, I'll give a little background..I've rebuilt a couple of Volkswagon bug engines so, altough I'm no racecar machanic, I'm not totally inept either. I ran across the 912 registry website and thought that a 912 might be a good car as a restoration project. My question is where should I start? Can you recommend a book which would give me an idea of what it takes to restore a Porsche 912? Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks- Robert Lanini- California-USA From: John Petit; Thu, 11 Feb 1999; JMP725@aol.com; I do not own a Porsche, yet. Possibly in the near future. Theres a 912 thats been sitting in this guys driveway for the past 4 years. I keep telling myself I need to stop over there and find out if he wants to sell. I,m very ignorant when it comes to Porsche's, all I know is that I like them and would maybe like to have one. Well, anyways, the reason I,m sending this email is because I,m trying to find out some info. I know its a 912, thats it. I was wondering what years they were made & what year is the most valuable. This car is just sitting there outside in the elements rusting away, and he,s got a garage, I just dont understand. I,d appreciate it if you email me back , Thanks. page of my 912 with a 2.4 914 engine. If your interested its at http://members.home.net/jecole/912_24.htm
. Jim Cole, From: Lee Jolsen; Fri, 15 Jan 99; ljolsen@kacf.com; Rick, thanks for the info and the
excellant WEB page. I have been visiting often since I bought my 912 and have picked up
alot of extremely useful information. I plan on registering once I get a picture
worth posting. I guess I should include a picture of this chrome engine...even the plate
that is the bottom of the engine compartment is chrome on both sides...more chrome on this
912 than porsche probably used in it's entire production of the model...maybe owned by a
frustrated Harley ridder. From: Steve Coleman; Mon, 14 Dec 1998; scoleman@starvision.com; Hello, This message is
from the Vancouver, BC area. Last summer Chilliwack Suzuki (just east of here) was
advertising a '68 912 Cabrio 5 speed for $12,800 Cdn. Looked nice in the photo and was
supposedly in excellent original condition. No, I didn't go and see it beacuse I won't be
in the position to acquire a 912 until the year after next. Anyway, having been around
when the original 912 came out, I don't remember there ever being a cabrio until the
re-release in the 1970's. So am I mistaken or could this cabrio in Chilliwack have been
the real deal? I'm asking because IF this is true then I'll be searching for a
pre-70 cabrio over the next couple of years. Thanks in advance for any info.
Steve Coleman From: Clark Childers; Fri, 13 Nov 1998; cchilder@Trinity.Edu; I am a college student who has fallen in love with a 912. I found out it is in c***** shape so I have gone on the net to find another one. The one I loved was a 1969, the new one I have found is a 67. Is there any difference between the two? Body specs., engine specs., overall quality. I would really love to hear your opinion. Sincerely....Clark Childers From: Warren J Flearl; Mon, 28 Sep 1998; n0wf@juno.com; As a result of an ad (wanted 912) placed on your website,I was contacted by a lady in Wisconsin with a 1 owner 912E 60k miles wanting $8000.I nearly bit on that(and may still) but 500+ miles is too far to travel. That car was just put on classifieds 2000 and it sounds like a pretty nice car. I have since located a 912E in Nebraska with 43 k miles and will be negotiating with present owner to arrange purchase-he wants $7500-I may pay it if the car is as good as it sounds. I am a master tinkerer and you can expect a lot of postings from me asking questions about technical matters. I have really enjoyed visiting all of your site and hopefully I can contribute something helpful for others to read. Thank you for your efforts and keep up the good work! I am looking forward to my first Porsche and will Register when the car arrives. For me,a 912 makes better sense than a 911 in every aspect except performance but if I want to go fast I will build a motor as time and money allows. I truly think I will enjoy at least 90% of the experience of owning a 911 without the worry of a $5k or$10k engine rebuild. Plus it costs a lot less initially to purchase a 912 yet it delivers the panache of the high dollar cars that people worry about instead of enjoy and drive. Best Regards Warren Flearl Omaha,NE From: RAAnthony5; Wed, 13 May 1998; RAAnthony5@aol.com; To Richard Hoff, if you are
asking for what to look for in a 912E I would be most concerned about the soundness of the
body and then the mechanicals. Lots of ads say no rust but often that is not the case. If
you consider this model because it was cheaper than the 911 may have fallen into the hands
of younger owners who had neither the resources or the interest fully protect and maintain
the cars you should be especially careful with this model. Unless the car is a
"gift" I would hire someone who knows Porsches very well to make a prepurchase
inspection of the car. Some of these cars suffer from terminal rust, especially
underneath where the body derives much of its rigidity. On the mechanical side I would not
accept, "it's been rebuilt" without seeing the actual receipts and confirming
they are for the car you are looking at. Again, a prepurchase inspection makes a lot of
sense, why spend $8,000-$12,000 on a car that either you will have to junk or dump that
much From: Richard Hoff; Tue, 12 May 1998; rshoff@sprynet.com; Could you send me some information on what to look for in buying a 912E. I have one I'm going to look at this weekend. He says its rust free and has 45K on it. He sent me two pictures and it looks great. I think this might be the one for me. Thank you. R.S. Hoff From: Glenn Schumacher; Thu, 30 Apr 1998; glenn@pe.net; Enjoy the web site, glad to see/ read information on the 912 model, as you well know, most of the literature....avoids the model. Thanks again. Glenn Schumacher From: Casey T. Welsh; Wed, 29 Apr 1998; porscheboy@webtv.net; Rick, I just wanted to let you know that I have a new e-mail address; porscheboy@webtv. I wasn't sure how to update it on the registry page. The site looks great and I have enjoyed reading eveyones thoughts and stories about the 912. 1976 912E vin# 0185 Earlier posting from guests are listed on the Guestbook Vol. 1 page. |
