Teczon's '69 912From: Ricky Teczon;  Hi, I'm Ricky Teczon of Stockton, California. It's a JOY to do minor improvements, personalizing, washing & waxing and most important DRIVING my Green 1969 912. I am the 4th owner of this California black Plate 912. First purchased in Santa Monica as a Red-Burgundy color 912. A Member of Porsche Club of America; Yosemite Region and The 912 Registry.     This is my first Porsche I purchased in May of 2001. While driving my 912 in August 2001, a Exhaust Valve broke. I garaged my 912 and decided to make it a performance daily driver. I did my homework, ordered and purchased new engine parts. The Parts I did not change were the Crank, Piston Rods, Polished Intakes, Oil Cooler and 1 Exhaust Head. One used Exhaust Head purchased and these new Parts; 86MM Big Bore Kit, Web Performance Cam & Cam Gear, Norris Dual Valve Springs, Scat Chromoly Push Rods, Expandable Push Rod Tubs, Drive Gears on Crank, Oil Pump Gears, All Bearings (Main, Rod and Connecting Rod), Scat Performance Gland Nut, Pressure Plate, Disc, Throw Out Bearing, Fly Wheel, High Torque Starter, Weber 40IDF's, Chromed Bosch .009 Distributor, Pertronix Ignitor, Jacobs Omni Magnum, Bosch Generator, Oil Lines, K & N Air Filters, Valves and Guides and Bursch Tuned Exhaust. On April 2003, I took my 912 and all parts to German Auto Service of Stockton who rebuilt and installed the engine.     On July 2003, I garaged the 912 again to do interior improvements. I took out the Front and Rear Windshields. Installed a new ivory Headliner, Dash w/Kenwood 2way 4"x10"speaker, Leather Rear Deck Coversion w/2 Kenwood 4way 6"x9"speaker,Moch1 Underdash w/2 Kenwood 1" Tweeters and 2 Kenwood 3way 5 1/4"speakers, Powered by a Kenwood Stereo System and Amp, A car Alarm w/FM Pager and Neon Blue City and Underbody Light Kit. My 912 RUNS,SOUNDS and LOOKS GREAT !!! Rick

RufusFrom: Scott Douglas, California, Found I hadn't added my latest addition, Rufus, a '67 SUNROOF coupe. It's got all the goodies that my '66 had put into it. I've just had the suspension replaced with new inserts/struts/bushings/tie rod ends/ball joints and it rides like a new car. (I highly recommend doing this before you do the engine.) It is running great now and is a blast to drive. My son rubbed out the paint and it now shines like a black car should. . Scott

From: William Langman, Indiana USA, 1966 Coupe; Now White, Now Restoring. I have always loved Porsches. And I have always wanted a classic car. Now I have both, I bought this Porsche from a man near me that bought it years ago to play with. Its been in storage since 1975. I'm the third owner of this 912. Next winter (2005) I'm going to have it completely rebuilt.  Interests-Events, Touring, Technical, Restoration, Show

From: Utah Ingersoll, New York, USA, 1968 Coupe; Still Original color. This 912 lived in a box on a friend and mentor's land for 20+ years. I am going to begin its restoration in the spring (of 2005). Once it is mechanically sound I intend to drive it to the northwest to protect it from the northeast’s corrosive road salt. Interests- Events, Touring, Technical, Restoration, Show, Rallies, Autocross, Racing.

From: Tom Pacheco, California USA, 1969 Coupe; Daily Driver.  Wanted One Since 1965.  Now I am in Heaven

The Dillon's '66 912From: Doug & Pam Dillon, '66 912 Coupe; WE JUST JOINED THE REGISTRY THIS AUG.O4.  I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 1972 SINCE THEN I'VE HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT CC’D THE HEADS AND PUT IN A NEW CAM WITH A HIGHER LIFT.  JUST RECENTLY I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET A NEW SET OF CARBS FROM GERMANY STILL IN THE BOX.  WHAT A DIFFERENCE THEY MADE.  IT STILL HAS THE AM FM SW RADIO IT WORKS FINE.  THOUGHT I WOULD SEND SOME PHOTOS OF IT IN THE GARAGE MY WIFE FIXED UP FOR THE CAR.  HOPE YOU LIKE THEM.  Doug & Pam Dillon

From: Paul Marshall, Ontario Canada, 1969 Coupe; After years of being a BMW car and motorcycle owner I've turned 50 and bought what I've always wanted, the 1969 912 coupe

From: Kevin Richards, Virginia, USA; 1966 Coupe, Still Original color, Now Restoring. Original 912 Irish Green, been looking for this car for years! Interests-Events, Touring, Technical, Restoration, Show, Rallies, Autocross, Racing

Stockum's 912EFrom: Steve Van Stockum, copper brown metallic 912E; I purchased the car in 1996. I've added Bosch fog lights, late style mirrors, and a CD player. Other than that, it's pretty much stock. I had it re-painted in July of 1997 (original color, very unique), some upholstery work on the front and rear seats at the same time, and the engine and trans rebuilt in 2003. It still has the L-Jetronic fuel injection, and runs GREAT. I put around 9,000 miles a year on it, and it's fun, fast, and trouble free. I purchased my first Porsche in high school in 1975 (a rusty '66 911), and it's been a love affair ever since! This is my 22nd Porsche ... my 23rd is a 1962 356B I'm currently in the process of restoring.

From: John Summer; 1967 Coupe, 29441 ML, This is one of the finest unrestored examples in existence. Every piece on the car is original. All rubber is plyable. The paint is immaculate. The interior is perfect. The undercarriage is "as new". This car has been kept under two covers and stored in a wooden box in a California warehouse for the past 14 years. It includes all manuals (signed by Ferry Porsche), service book and tool kit all in place. The original Semperit spare is still in place. Even the leather key pouch with all keys (including antenna) is there. This is an absolute time capsule and when presented in public for the first time, enthusiasts should be very excited to see it. I just acquired it and I marvel at it each day.

From: Steve Torkelsen, Connecticut; 1965 Coupe #350285; The car was picked up by my uncle at the factory (then driven around Europe for several months). I've recently acquired it, although it has been a part of my family since I was a toddler.

From: Andrew Doak I joined 912 Registry back in February 2004. I purchased my 1965/66 912 in January of 2004. Red, coupe, 4-speed, matching numbers, VIN# 451353, in need of TLC. I’ve installed a short-shift kit, pedal cluster re-build, new K&N filters, new sheet metal screw set, new oil sump gasket and screw set, new oil drain plug, original Blaupunkt radio, all lights now working, both front seats re-upholstered, etc. I’m going though and trying to make her as smooth as possible, without the concourse attention to detail. I’ve been documenting my progress at http://www.66912.com . I update the site whenever something happens, gets replaced, is discovered, or I just feel like tinkering with her. I have a good deal of work left to do, and a larger financial investment to make, but every hour and every dollar is worth the effort. The driving experience, the smell, the way the road responds to my car is outstanding. Thanks to places like 912 Registry and the PCA, my work and appreciation for my vehicle keep growing. Andrew Doak, 912 owner

Meltsner's SWTFrom: Steve Meltsner;  I joined the 912 Registry at the Member level and am really enjoying the give and take offered on the web site.  Thanks.

1968 912 soft window Targa, VIN #: 12870624.  I’ve owned this car since 1975 and until recently did the vast majority of maintenance myself, including an engine rebuild about 15 years ago, I’m using Dell’orto carburetors (since the rebuild) and have not had one bad experience with them.  Meltsner's '68 912They idle beautifully, never pause when I step on the gas, and in general have been a vast improvement over the original Solex’s.  The car was repainted 13 years ago and still looks great.  The seats were redone 3 years ago.  During the painting process, I had both front fenders replaced with OEM fenders I had bought while in Germany.  The inner and outer rocker panels were also replaced.  The car has no rust at all.  Since I’ve owned it, the car has been in snow once and rain maybe 10 or 15 times, max.  I had the Targa top and soft rear window rebuilt maybe 18 or 20 years ago with Mercedes Benz cloth and it’s held up fantastically but I’m now thinking of redoing them both.

When I was looking for a Porsche, I sat in on a few PCA meetings to see what they were all about and was told that I wouldn’t be happy with a 912.  Their reason was that the car was not fast enough.  I explained to them that I was a fighter pilot and flew upwards of 650 MPH each weekend and that was where I satisfied my need for speed.  I bought my 912 from its original owner, a tire store owner, in Brooklyn, N.Y.  I knew it was the correct car when I asked him if the Becker radio had stereo.  He just looked at me with distain and said, “If you want stereo, listen to the Abarth exhaust.”  Right then and there I wrote him a check.  By the way, believe it or not, I’m still using that Abarth exhaust.  Since discovering the 912 Registry web site, I’ve become addicted.  I log on multiple times a day to see what’s going on.  My only complaint is that the vast majority of you guys seem to be out on the West Coast and I’m in Connecticut, but I do so enjoy the technical questions and  answers. You've got a lot of very knowledgeable 912 owners in the "club."  I’m an airline pilot so maybe I’ll get to meet some of my fellow members in my travels.  Regards,  Steve.    Oh by the way, here are a few photos of my pride and joy.

From:  Anderson Kurt; 1965 Coupe, 350159 (159th 912 built at factory) Long time 356 owner. Won the 912 in a raffle!  It has the 3-instrument cluster with the 356-looking instruments. Below that is the silver brushed stainless steel band across the whole panel. Don't know if someone added that band or if it is supposed to be there. I saw a photo of one without the band (just paint), and I really liked it. I need to fix (weld) some small holes in the aft portion of the longitudinals and the closing panels on the aft end of the front fender wells. Otherwise not too bad. Pretty good floor, and a great luggage and battery box area. It had some body issues "fixed" just before the raffle, and then it was repainted. Looks fantastic from 20 + feet away. Still has its 4.5 inch chrome (and rust) rims, with, believe it or not, 195x15's on it (argh). Someone put a '67 engine in it, and it has a five speed. I checked the compression last week and all 4 were between 148 and 152! Very strong smooth engine, still with its Solex's. Very smooth shifting.
We have an extremely nice 356, and my wife does not feel comfortable driving it (even though 30 years ago she drove one to work everyday). We also have a '79 911SC Targa. She won't drive that either since around town it's more work than fun (Porsche's version of a 3/4 ton pickup truck without power steering).--BUT THIS LITTLE 912 SHE WILL DRIVE !!

From: Jim Davidson; 1969 912 Coupe; Now Red, Now Restoring; Family owned since early 70's.  Interests-Events, Touring, Technical, Restoration, Show

From Tom Witte; 1968 912 Coupe; Now Red, Now Restoring. Acquired 06_04. A little rough. Doesn't need restoring per se, just some long overdue maintenance and electrical system work. Hope to have it to a "dry-day" daily driver condition soon. Engine is now "big-bore". Ownership trail is sketchy pre-2000. Curious KM speedo in a left hand drive, Midwestern car. Probably some interesting history there.

Bergk pre-series 912EFrom: Berndt Bergk   6/25; This is a picture of my 912 E pre-series-model from 1975, which we own since 1976 from contact to Mr. Bott, former Director Development Center and Construction Porsche, Weissach.  Still in good shape, although I intend to sell, for reasons of space. Full car history is documented. -Kind regards- Berndt Bergk

From: Clint Ferguson, 6/15; 1967 Coupe - I have owned this car since 1973. It was repainted in 1975 and 2004, the original polo red.  Has mostly all original interior, engine is original, overhauled in 1977, transmission and all drive train is original.  Never been in a collision, has no rust or repairs, and 115700 original miles. Will sell for $1, 000,000.00 cash. (just kidding).

Skousen's '67 912From: David Skousen 6/10; Hi My name is David Skousen and I just saw my car on your website. I am the new owner of San Diego based Bryan Manse's 1967 912. It has been undergoing a full restoration for the last three years and is now ready to be out and about. I still have some things to do before I can consider it perfect but its close. I will be joining the club as soon as I am back home and can get the vin# but until then it was cool seeing it on your site! Here's a recent picture from the Porsche club show last week in Huntington Beach. Thanks! David Skousen, Laguna Beach, CA

deJongh's '69 912From: Mike de Jongh 6/10; Hello, I bought myself a Porsche 912 1969. I live in Holland, New-Vennep. Original it was an okeryellow car and come from California Santa Barbara. Can you take one of the pictures and bring it on the site?   Thanx  Mike de Jongh

From: Laurie Selph;   5/20; My mother-in-law had her beautiful polo red,  show-ready, 1967  912 -  with 17,685 original kilometers - stolen last October.  She was heartbroken!  It was scheduled to be professionally photographed & appraised, in prep for her first show - just three weeks after it was stolen.  She wasn't registered with any groups (PCA...), and didn't know anyone else who was.  So, she took the advice of several internet sites and chose " *********** " for her insurance.  After receiving the requisite pictures & papers, and agreeing to  the storage/mileage/trailer requirements, the insurance company assigned a stated value of $18,000.  For the past 7 months,  " ***** ", has been arguing with her about "stated value" vs "agreed value".  She lives in Texas, where they can decide "the lesser of..." so, they say she is out of luck.  They keep dragging it out, month after month, and keep asking her to send more & more info to them, so they can "settle on something reasonable".  She sends them everything they ask for, including the extra research, but they just don't want to settle.  They keep saying it's not worth even half of what they decided to insure it for.  The latest request from them was to send them "actual 'sold' comparable vehicles", so they can decide what the market is.  Even they agreed that after show, it would probably have been deemed a "100 point car".  It is nearly impossible to find this kind of info!  She & I searched all over.  Her Porsche was pristine!  It was ALL original & not a spot/dent/sputter!  If anyone can email any info on"sold" ones to me, it would help put an end to this ordeal that they are putting her through.  This ridiculous, heartless runaround is raising her blood pressure.  'Talk about adding insult to injury.  PLEASE, any info/advice/contacts  is appreciated beyond words!! Thank you in advance! - Laurie ( lmselph@earthlink.net )

From: Dominick Lauro, 1967 Coupe, Cancun, Mexico 5/8; Just bought my 912 Coupe Monday and had it trucked home which took 35 hours

From: Mark Curley, 1966 912, New York 5/7; Still Original color, Now Restoring. I found this car by accident in April '04. I knew nothing about the 912 at this time, but bought it anyway because it was "born" the same year as me! Now, after doing research on the 912, and finding this site, I am psyched to get it back on the road. It had been in storage since 1988, covered, in a dry barn, so it is in great shape. I am documenting everything that I do to put on a web page to help future owners. Interests-Events, Touring, Technical, Restoration, Show, Rallies, Autocross, Racing; Technical Committee

From Jameel Din 4/25;  912E sunroof coupe; Originally bought by my dad in 1981, the car was sold to my cousin in '96. I bought it back from her this year and am in the process of restoring. It's rough around the edges and needs a lot of help, but it's still a great car. The car used to be silver but is now pewter. I'm looking to restore it to the original color next year. Anyone have advice on a good (relatively inexpensive) paint shop in the SF Bay Area? Thank you to all who take part in the registry and keep these beautiful cars going!

From: Mike Lawrence 3/27; Rick, Thanks for the email concerning my VIN number, 350554. The car had always been registered as a '66, but after receiving your message I checked some documents that came with the car and realized the car was delivered to a Lt. Col. in the US Air Force in Stuttgart on July 27,  1965 compete with a Blaupunkt radio (it still has) and Dunlop tires for a grand total of $4,130.75. The car was later shipped to the US from Belgium in 1966, that is where I think the discrepancy in the date of  manufacture began. The car's not perfect but the engine and the rest of the car is still very original runs good and is fun to drive (also  seems to turn a lot of heads). Thanks Mike

From: Keith W. Kenitzer, D.C. 3/13; 1966 model, VIN 353397, Registry member, grille badge #037.  Some good news, I just finished building a new 26' x 38' garage with a stall dedicated to my 912, which means I hope to start restoration work on it soon. This has been a very long time in coming and needless to say, I am quite excited to get started on my project. I haven't driven the car in over 20 years and it has deteriorated quite a bit over that time, but now, the process will be reversed.  I really enjoy the web site and am looking forward to the BBS being updated. I would love to see a daily email digest of all BBS postings similar to the 356 Registry mail list in digest form. Thanks, I'll keep the group updated as things progress. Keith

Solerno's '68From: Scott Solerno, 3/7; Hi, attached is a photo of my 1968 912 coupe. Irish Green (repaint), Fuchs (need some restoring), Weber's, Header. Everything else is stock. This is the best $$$ I've ever spent on a car, I'm having a blast driving this around! Scott

From: Calvin Jones, 3/2, '69 912, California; This is my first Porsche. I purchased from my uncle and I'm putting the finishing touches on this "project". the car sat for 7 years.  Used for Touring. Interests- Technical, Restoration, Show; Membership Committee

From: George Marshall, 2/8; 912 Registry Member.  1967 Coupe, 143592 ML, still Original color, used for touring.  The original owner had this car for 35 years.

From: Rick Horvath, 1/28; Hello Rick, The NOV/DEC Edtion of the hallowed club newsletter arrived on my doormat this week-end, another fine gem, BUT, whats this on page 4?. A comment that could be taken the 'wrong way' by all the 912E fans out there, Re: '........some difficulty at this altitude. It is a small price to pay for lacking all that computerized complexity.'  This, IMHO, is not conductive to the morale of all 912E owners out there who are struggling to keep their AFC Fuel Injection system 'up to snuff' as we say this side of the pond.[By the way, I DO agree with the statement that Steve makes about Carbs versus Injection tho', 20+ years of VW hobby experience gives you that perspective.]
As a 'newbie' 912E owner myself, I WILL register her once she arrives in 'Blighty', I enjoy the cameraderie that the registry has, especially with fellow 912E owners out there. The 912 Registry is very much a members group rather than being somewhat ELITIST like PCOA / PCGB, I guess that stems from the fact that the 912 was/is{?} regarded as a Poor Mans Porsche. Finally, I have to admit that my 'new toy' is a none-runner due to the infamous dropped valve seat scenario that happens to the 914 2litre heads. I will be using many of the contacts and members info to help get her Running again. I am really looking foreward to this challenge as i have wanted a 912E of my own since 1988 when i saw THE yellow one at the PCGB annual event, then at Malvern, Worcestershire, that Gavin Joule wrote about in the SEPT/OCT Newsletter. The then owner had just inherited the car from a relative in California, had taken it to his local Porsche Agent here in the UK.......and they had no idea what this 'ODD-BALL' was!. I was happy to help the proud new owner what service books he should buy, Haynes Porsche 914, R Bentley VW BUS 1968 / 79. As these would at least get him by on the engine front untill the correct service info could be found from Porsche. For a few years after first meeting we would talk over the phone how the 912E was running and I am happy that she has found a loving new owner in DAVE CANTLE as he really loves his air-cooled cars. Gotta go,TTYL. RICK HORVATH Member #912R0318-R
P.S. For my sins i am the TYPE 14 Spares Sec' of the KGOC-GB. Try www.kgoc-gb.org if ever you get ba chance. P.P.S. Seeing that the 912E is VW powered, one of my future pet projects is to fit a 912 Engine into my '73 K'GHIA Coupe, do you object to this idea i wonder.

Aalst's 912From: Frans van Aalst, 1/12; Hi 912 registry, Thanks for having me on the site.  However my 912 is totally restored (body off) and it's looking fantastic again!!!. I'll send you a new picture (after one year of hard work, bl..., s and t) of my 912....and i am very proud of it.
