From: Josh Barbieri; Wed Sept. 29, 1999; nalubum@aol.com; I was wondering if anyone could comment on this:  I purchased my '67 912 in nearly mint condition a few weeks ago.  I live in the High Desert of California, so it never occurred to me to consider what to do if raid should fall on the car.  The distributor and generator are right beneath the rear grill.  There is no obstruction to rain hitting both of these things.   Might the restorer have neglected to re-install some baffling?  I have done some excessive research on the breed of cars and can not remember seeing anything in any of the photos that I had reviewed.  I would appreciate any and all comments on this.   Winter is rolling around, and it will invariably rain here sooner or later.   Thanks a million!!!

From: Jamie Dobbs; Sat, 25 Sep 1999; jamie@dobbsj.freeserve.co.uk; do you know where i can obtain a list on engine numbers, that will enable me to confirm that the engine in a car is the original. thanks

From: Robert Allred; Tue, 14 Sep 1999; rallred@inconnect.com; OK, the first task is to attempt to locate and remedy the Exon-Valdeez  volume oil spills, leaks under my newly acquired 912! I'll need to get it up in the air a bit to crawl underneath.
Several references in the Clymer aftermarket shop manual about placing the car on jack stands, but no indication as to where the stands should be placed under the car. I don't want to make an already precarious  rust problem in floor pan & rocker boxes worse by setting weight of car on them - what other area(s) would members suggest for them?  Thanks in advance!

From: Tony Booth; Fri, 20 Aug 1999; awbooth@cadvision.com; Only one other 912 up here in Calgary, which makes this site invaluable.
My problem is ;- How are rusty gas tanks best de-rusted and passified ?. I have heard that hydrochloric
acid is used, sounds drastic ! Has anyone had a tank successfully de-rusted internally and the surface
neutalized/passified ?
I would sure like to have the technical details so as I know the shop I choose is doing the right thing.
Great site, kind regards Tony Booth

From: Justin Wallin; Wed, 30 Jun 1999; justinwallin@earthlink.net; Now I'm trying to replace my engine compartment soundproofing for my '67 912 coupe - any suggestions? I've called the usual places, with no "perfect" answer (not that I should expect one) - but do you know of anyone who supplies a quality product that may actually be made for the earlier models that have full wrap-around sound-proofing?
I'm always getting great ideas from the site - thanks again!

From: Martin Frokjaer; Wed, 23 Jun 1999; frokjaer@post10.tele.dk; Because we are going to change the color (repaint) our 912 within a couple of weeks - and we do not want to paint it in its original color - it would be nice if someone has got pictures of their 912 (must have Fuchs-alloys) which could be e-mailed to us.  The relevant colors are: SILVER-GREY, RED (and shades), YELLOW (and shades). Please e-mail Your pictures to: frokjaer@post10.tele.dk
Thank You in advance - Martin Frokjaer, Denmark, Europe.

From: Patrick Van Asbroeck; Fri, 11 Jun 1999; p.asbroeck@uk.betalasermike.com; Rick,
Last weekend I checked all the bulbs ( 3 broken) in the panel meters on the dashboard.(5 clocks) At the bottom of the clock with the oil temperature gauge there is bulb which so far never went on. In the
original manual there's nothing mentioned about it. Why she's there? Anyone having a wiring diagram of a 5 clock dash 912? Patrick

From: Don N Anderson; Thu, 10 Jun 1999; DonaldA922@aol.com ;Came across the 912 registry site by accident. I am owner of a 1968 coupe and was searching for information on uphostery for the seats.  Don N Anderson

From: jack frost; Mon, 07 Jun 1999; jfrost@jackfrost.com; I have a 66 912. There is a significant difference in the front shock towers of 65-66 912's and 67 and later 912s. This is in addition to the major changes that occurred on 1968 with the change in wheel base. The later year parts may be made to fit, but you need to check with a real expert 1st to see just how much you are really getting in to.

From: BSTuck; Sun, 6 Jun 1999; TuckBS@aol.com; Hi there. I've just recently started on a restoration of a 1966 912. I'm currently in the process of stripping the car down (disassembling doors,  fenders, bumbers, hoods, etc.) and proparing them to be rust-proofed then primered. I have the opportunity to pick up a 1968 912 with no motor/transmission/ interior for unbelievably cheap. I am hoping that I will be able to use many parts and accessories off of it on my '66. What I need to know is how much difference there is between the two years concerning the major components of the cars (fenders/doors/suspension/axels/etc.).

From: Glenn Storek; Sun, 30 May 1999; gstorek@pacbell.net; Hello : I own a 1966 912 out in California. The car is undergoing a complete restoration and I want to install original leather seats, with headrests. My question is: Does your car have headrests? If so, can you tell me if they are EXTERIOR mounted, on the back of the seat like the late 356's were? Or, do the two supporting rods go down INSIDE the seat? I hope you hear back from you soon. Thanks, Best regards, Glenn Storek Porche 912 VIN # 457654

From: Joel Jensen; Wed, 26 May 1999; JJ1PHOENIX@aol.com; According to Brett Johnson in the Authenticity tome, the angled script was on 912s until the advent of the 1967 model year. My 66 has the later single letter PORSCHE script and the 912 just below the grille. My dash has the older curvy 912 script. To the best of my knowledge and from all appearances this car has never been hit and panel fit is excellent. Would like to hear from other owners of the early SWB cars as to the mode of their cars and if there is an earlier cutoff or if Karmann and Porsche bodies differed in this respect. Thanks, Joel

From: Jeff Trask; Sun, 23 May 1999 ; NO911NV@aol.com; Rick, Here are some cars @ the show. I shot all of the 912's(4) and a few other cars that looked nice. Hope you can use...Jeff Trask

From: Justin Wallin; Fri, 21 May 1999; justinwallin@earthlink.net; This is a great site - I visit it at least once a week. If anyone is interested, The Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace is holding a Classic Car Show this May 29, all day. It's only $25, and was a tremendous success last year - it should be great this year. I'll be entering my '67 912 coupe. It's only $25 to register. If anyone is interested, just call Ken Hallcom at the Library, 714-993-5075 ext 219. Hope to see you there! Justin Wallin justinwallin@earthlink.net

From: Hans; Fri, 14 May 1999; Spot113@aol.com; What can you do with a 66 dash? Mine is in sad condition any tips or parts sources? Hans

From: DAVID LOVATO; Thu, 13 May 1999; dljilovato@hotmail.com; The 912 site gets better and better! What a super job, and much appreciated by this Porsche nut! Can someone please do a series on upholstery replacement kits and aftermarket seats? I am getting a bit nervous about the drivers seat in my otherwise excellent looking brown bomber! My big bum has pretty much cracked it up in the last 20K miles!! I really need the 'straight skinny' on all those 'do it yer-self' and 'send in yer seats' guys. I don't see any great deals, the new aftermarket seats are no more expensive than most kits...advice much sought and really appreciated!!

From: Peter A. Nietupski; Tue, 27 Apr 1999; nietupski@ameritech.net; Ok I'm trying to absorb any facts I can get on the old 912's and My '68 coupe has what sounds like a typical dash issue. The area around the speaker grille is wasted.  What's the hot tip(s) ? repair or replace ? (does anyone do a decent job of repairing ?) This appears to be a two piece dach but mine is only bad around the speaker. What say you wonderwebmeister ? Thanks and great work Pete

From: Bob Robeson; Sun, 25 Apr 1999; robeson@i-cafe.net; Hello 912 Registry, I am looking for a color wiring diagram for my 912. The whole back end needs to be redone. A service manual would be ideal. Please let me know if you have one, or have any ideas on my obtaining one. Thanks Much, Bob Robeson, robeson@i-cafe.net

From: Max Levell; Fri, 23 Apr 1999; revivalcars@yahoo.com; I have a question concerning the re-paint of my 912.  What colour should the inside of the wheel arches be? Should they be body colour or black ? Also what colour should the underside of the car be Matt black ? Satin Black? Gloss Black or stone chip ?  I hope you can help me out here ! Regards, Max Levell - London/UK

From: Bill Hockett; Sun, 11 Apr 1999; bhockett@iea.com; I need some help. I purchased my 912 in 1977 in Germany, then brought it to Washington state. I am the car's second owner. It has 80,000 original miles. Even though I've owned it for so many years, it is only now due to some events that have caused me to wonder about my car. It is a 1966 912 with five gauges in the dash, a factory electric sunroof, factory cookie cutter wheels (narrow) a factory power antenna, 3-band Blau radio, factory fog lights, with a factory color of midnight blue and a tan interior.  The car is driven little and is in excellent condition. I recently attempted to have a small seat seam repaired. It required some of the original fabric. When the classic car upholstery shop inquired with his Porsche supplier, he was told that my color interior was never offered on production cars, and that with the options on the car it was probably a one-off car built for a show or a special customer. As there is no plate on my left door post, I don't know how viable this information is. Is anyone out there familiar with this type of situation to offer me some thoughts? Bill Hockett

From: Ron K; Sat, 10 Apr 1999; Amkausin@aol.com; Looking up the research on Porsches, I have become interested in a RS 2.7 look a like conversion. I was wondering if the carera flares readily available through mail orders (Automotion) will pass for the RS flares and are they compatable with the corner bumper peices of a RS? Where can I find these back bumper corners and will they bolt to the 1969 912 body with little if any modification. The 912 already has a factory front spoiler without an oil cooler and I think it will do ok regardless. I was then just going to order a fiberglass duck tail from Automotion unless I can find a real one somewhere. Thanks BUG TO PORSCHE GUY, RON K. Is this a stupid idea????

From: V.J. Lovero; Sun, 4 Apr 1999; VJLOVERO@aol.com; Also just to let you know, I received my reproduction seatbelts from P.E.P. any they are beautiful... chrome buckles with a Porsche crest, 3 point retractable fronts. Once they are installed I'll give you a final review.  These belts may be something that other 912 owners might want to improve relative safety. Later, V.J.
