Sobieslaw Zasada   Polnischer Rallyemeister, 912
Sobieslaw Zasada racing his 912 rally carSobieslaw Zasada's racing accomplishments include European Rally Champion of the GP touring cars in 1967 with his 912, and victory driving his Porsche 911 in the 2055-mile stage race across Argentina.  He first raced motorcycles, and in 1951 he entered four-wheel racing.  After solid racing performances, he received support from the Polish automobile club in Warsaw.  At the time of his successes racing his 912, he was 37 years old and owned a four-person auto repair shop in Krakow.

By the late 1990s, Zasada was one of the most successful businessmen in Poland.  In 1996 Reuters reported that his Polish automotive group Sobieslaw Zasada Centrum SA launched the construction of Mercedes' Vito mini-vans.  The launch marked the first production licensee that Mercedes-Benz had granted in eastern Europe.  By that time Zasada controlled two utility car factories and several automotive parts plants.  40 plus years later, view his web site and look for his 912!

Zasada in Press ReleaseThe image to the right is a digital composite of two pages from the 1968 Factory Press Kit, announcing Sobieslaw Zasada's success as the '67 European Rally Champion with his 912.  Translation by 912 owner Alex v. Wachter:

"1967 Year-End Report.

Second part, Motorsport

Sobieslav Zastavda, Polish Ralley Champion, 912.

Porsche wins the European Championship for Gran-Tourismo- and "Close-to-Road-Spec" cars.

Since the last Ralley Monte Carlo with the Porsche-Team, top driving-team Vic Elford/David Stone  overarchieved all expectations and won with their Porsche 911S not only the Rally European Championship. They won the Lyon Charbonnieres Solitude, the Tulpenrally and the Rally Geneva in their class, too.

In the "Close-to Series" cars class, the Pole Sobieslaw Zastava won the European Master Title in a Porsche 912.

Elford/Stone = 57 points, Zasada = 64 points"

Sobieslav ZasadaNOTE: In the 9th event in the 1967 European Rallye Championship, the Geneva Rallye, Zasada and Dobrzanski placed fourth overall.  As shown above, Zasada and his 912 actually scored more points than the much better known, Monte Carlo winning, factory 911S driven by the two Englishmen Vic Elford and David Stone.  The 911, of course, went on to a stellar rally career, but the 912 played a part in Porsche rally history that should not be forgotten.
