Have you swapped engines in your 912/912E?  We don't mean rebuilt or non-factory setups, but engines designed for other models and marques.

From: Mike Hartman    HI, My name is Mike Hartman and have previously owned 69 912 vin 3039 which is in your registry. I have since sold it to a gentleman who knows of your site so please change your information so that he may register if he wishes.  I build Porsche engines for a hobby and am currently  finishing a 3.2 911 engine from my 1988 Carrera. When I  owned my 912 ( it won't be my last) I built another engine for it that was turbocharged and fuel injected. I did this with the help of CB Performance , a company well known for VW engines. It was fully sorted and I ran it for a few years , about 7,000 miles , with no problems at all. The process to complete this job with the reliability and drivability that we acheived is too long detail here. If you are interested in sharing this with fellow 912 owners, contact me and I will be glad to share it with them.  I still have the complete engine,as the new owner of the car wanted the original one reinstalled. A picture of the engine in my car was taken at Hershey a couple of years ago and was posted on Rennlist's website. I assure you that this was no hack job and was a professional installation.  Thanks   Mike Hartman

From: Jim Cole;  ; Hi there! Great site!  I have a page of my 912 with a 2.4 914 engine. If your interested its at http://members.home.net/jecole/912_24.htm . Jim Cole,
69 912 2.4, 72 914/6.   Followup in response to Webmeister questions-  Hi Rick! The tranny's and clutches are all the same. So the 914 just bolted right in. The 2.4 is 10:1 has a cam, ported, 48mm webers and pulls about 150hp. Makes the 912 move VERY nicely. THe only competition for it in Autocross are a couple of full race 911's with huge tires and hp!  Very nice site you have!
Cheers, Jim Cole
